View Full Version : Major problem with Files/Settings Transfer Wizard

Mayday! I used the WinXP Files & Settings Transfer Wizard to back up all my
data to a USB drive before reformatting my hard drive.

I am now trying to reinstall my files onto my newly reformatted computer,
but the F.A.S.T. Wizard doesn't seem to recognise the backup DAT file on my
USB Drive.

I get an error message saying "the location that you specified does not
contain stored information. Please type a valid folder path into the edit
box."

Any help would be much appreciated, I have 1 Gig of important data on that
USB drive.

Are you using the *exact same* version of the FASTW program to restore
the data as you used to create it? If for example, your previously
installed Windows XP was at Service Pack 2 and your new install has
not yet been updated and is still at the original release or SP1 level
then this would explain the difficulty. Try updating your new
install first via Windows Update so it is the same (or as close as you
can get it) update status as your old version. Then try restoring the
files again.

If that doesn't work then see the following article:
