View Full Version : 2 HUGE .tmp files - can I delete or move them?

I have 2 HUGE .tmp files on my pc and need to create some badly needed disc
space SOON.

The files are:

C:\WINDOWS\Temp\hp2.tmp (7.6 GB)
and
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\hp2F.tmp (15.58 GB)

Can I delete these files or, at least, move them to my external hard drive
without it causing me major headaches?

Also, not sure if this has any bearing, but could the "hp" part of the the
file names have anything to do with the HP all-in-one
printer/copier/fax/scanner that I have connected to my machine?

Any help/advice/guidance would be GREATLY appreciated....thnx. Mark

Hi Mark,
Yep, it is a better Idea to save it to a External Drive and see if a week or
so if any of your Applications will complain froma missing file/folder then
you know the culprit and you can restore it, which unlikely since it is in
the TEMP!.
But to be safe just move to the External Storage Drive and you can Delete it
after a while if no App/Programs ask for it.
HTH.

Thanks Nass for the input...
I've gotten 2 other replies...one of which tells me to go ahead and delete
them since Windows XP has already run the files...but, I like your suggestion
better in that I can at least restore these files if I elect to move them to
the external hard drive first. If nothing else, I've learned that it's often
best to approach a "wait an see" posture when dealing with issues like
these...which is what I'll be able to do if I move these files instead of
just deleting them.

Thanks again for your input and suggestion...
