First you're using a rather horrid interface that is stealing posts from the
Microsoft newsgroups and is posting your question here...

Head here:

Access MS Newsgroups:
http://kgiii.info/windows/all/general/msnewsgroups.html

Sorry that the "forum" (it's not much of a forum if it can't fend for itself
and leeches posts and helpers) but, well, you'll want to get here directly
for full functionality and to access all of the groups.

From there you'll want to head to the IE groups but this might fix it for
you:

Red X:

If not then...

Malware Cleaning:
http://kgiii.info/windows/all/general/malwarefix.html

After that look for poorly coded plug-ins.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

KennethM,

I was receiving the same error and was finally able to resolve this problem.
It started for me after installing IE 7 and MS OneCare.

I had thought I had removed all of my Norton anti-virus files. I learned
from someone at Microsoft this isn't always the case. They recommended I
down load the Norton Removal Tool and run it. I did and now don't have that
message when I close IE 7.0.

Here is the Norton web site on which I found the removal tool.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&docid=2005092709200113&nsf=sharedtech.nsf&view=docid

It offered me these options:

Download the Norton Removal Tool for your version of Windows.

I use Windows XP/2000. DOWNLOAD

I use Windows Me/98. DOWNLOAD
Save the file to the Windows desktop.
2 On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal tool icon.
3 Follow the on-screen instructions.
Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to
repeat some steps after the computer restarts.
