View Full Version : Bug in NVIDIA dual-display/DualView mode?

I am running an eVGA GeForce 6600 (AGP 8x) in DualView mode on an older
Windows XP SP2 Compaq machine. I have most of my desktop icons on my primary
screen while all of my game-related links & icons are on my secondary screen.

When switching users and then back to the original account (still logged in),
DualView display gets buggy. All of icons become mixed up & misaligned and my
secondary monitor icons get pushed back onto my primary display. At that
point, icons can not be placed back onto the secondary display again until I
completely log out of my account and then back in. This happens when
switching between other accounts as well.

It almost seems as tho the NVIDIA driver or driver helper service is
unloading itself whenever I switch users but not reloading correctly whenever
I log back into the original account. However, other than the DualView issue,
switching users has no other noticable ill-effects.

It may sound kind of trivial but when you are having to rearrange 25+ icons
across two screens every time you need to switch users, it can become a major
headache.

BTW, I have tried every Nvidia driver from v77.77 and up without any luck. I
can submit any other details or specs upon request.

I have searched and searched on the net but can not find anything remotely
related to my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You will not like my answer...

It's been an issue with nVidia for a while - I suffer the same fate as you.
You can save your icon positions inside of the nVidia application (driver
helper) if you want or you can find various freeware apps that will save 'em
for you. My solution? Stop doing that. *sighs* It wasn't a very good
solution but it worked.
