Can Windows Messenger be setup to use on a private LAN? We want the staff to
be able to message with each other, but are behind a firewall and proxy
server - we don't want to go outside. I know there are other products that
provide this option (lanmessenger for one) but was wondering if we could do
it with Windows.
Thanks.

Greetings,
Sort of. With a local Exchange 2000 IM Server or Live Communications Server (or other
SIP-based communications service) you can.
Regardless, a local server is required -- you can't just use it for just peer to peer
communication.
