to manual. This is in control panel, administrative tools,
then services. Look here;
http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm this gives
some advice for services but I would not set any to
disable mode. You can have less apps run at windows
startup, check in "msconfig.exe" and there are startup
manager programs too;

Also run regular maintenance, disk cleanup and the disk
defragmenter tools at least every month.
