System restore will not start

When I attempt to use system restore I get an error
message

Remoteassistancepreparesystemrestore could not be located
in the dynamic library WINSTA.DLL

Having checked the services I note that system restore
has been started automatically. Stopped and restarted for
good measure but the problem remained.

Would anyone have any clues at to how to fix this?

Hi Peter, just an idea:

Do a search for the sr.inf file which is normally located in C:\windows.
Make sure you search hidden files in your search criteria.
Right-click on the sr.inf file and select the install option.
