Hi, I have an HP Scanjet 3970 USB Scanner, I just got a new HP laptop and I
am trying to set the scanner up on the new computer....everytime I plug in
the scanner, regardless of which USb port, it says the device has
malfunctioned. Now this scanner works on another computer so I know it's not
the scanner. Have uninstalled all the software, re-installed it, plug in the
scanner, computers says it's an unrecognised device, but I can't force it to
grab the correct driver. Installed it on another pc...run the software,
plugged it in...found the correct hardware. I think that the PC is grabbing
the wrong INF file or something. How can I correct this to make the computer
recognised the scanner for what it is. This has been driving me crazy for
like 2 weeks now. Is there some files I might need to remove manually? Any
help is muchly appreciated. Thanks

Some scanners required that you install the Twain drivers and other software
in a very specific order before connecting the scanner.
Carefully read the instructions for installing the scanner.

Ya try doing what JS advised. What version of a scanner do you have?
EPSON? Also you can get some information on scanners by going to
google.ca and typing in "malfunctioning scanner+how to fix" or go to
the microsoft help and support center. the help and support center is
the best for that...
it's support.microsoft.com
here are a few links:

if you still have trouble, just email me at (I
check it more often then this;)
