Windows update

When I attempt to update windows, XP downloads the
updates, but install fails. I have attempted all of the
fixes listed in the knowledge base, but none of them
work. I could use some fresh ideas. I am vunerable to
the worm as I can not get that patch to install. My last
successful install was december of 2002. I am running XP
Pro.
