View Full Version : I am stumped!

Hello all,
I have just helped set up my brothers new Dell PC (P4,
2.4GHz, 1024Mb RAM, WinXP, 128Mb nVidia) which I bought
for him, and I am having the *most* annoying problem with
it..:
When I drag files around in Windows Explorer and on the
desktop, I can not the see them underneath the
mousepointer - translucent/faded or not, there is nothing
there!! This may sound quite trivial, but it is very
irritating when you have just spent a lot of money on a
PC that is meant to perform these kind of graphical tasks
very easily..!
I have searched all the options I can find: in System
Properties and Display Properties there are visual
effects options but everything is checked and is idential
to my own PC where everything works fine..!
Could it be that I haven't downloaded everything from
WindowsUpdate yet??! Or is the video card not working
properly?? (The translucent selection rectangle works
fine though..)
Many thanks for any help,
Will

Right -click on MY COMPUTER and select:
Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings,
check "Show Windows contents while dragging"
and click "apply".

Will, try a System File Check. Start>Run type: sfc /scannow Have
the Winxp cd in the drive. You could also
try a different Nvidia driver. Go to www.guru3d.com

thanks for the reply but those were the System properties
that i was talking about - they're all checked!
if that is the checkbox that covers the 'effect' i was
talking about, then it might be useful to know that the
windows contents ARE visible while dragging - it is just
whilst dragging files/icons that nothing is visible..
thanks once again,
Will
