XP - Baffling boot error message

My son's computer has gone bling.

When he attempts to boot up Windows XP
the process stops at the command line
and displays the following:

He can boot up the XP CD, but the Recovery console
requires a password which he and me don't know.

Ideas as to the problem and fix most appreciated.

That is not a very good sign. It's not at all related to Windows, it's
a hardware problem. See if these can help:
