Ok, this is my problem. Windows XP (Media Centre version) hangs during
startup. Displays the logo and scrolling blue bars but that is it. I am able
to start in safe mode with no problems (in safe mode, with network and
command prompt).

This is what I have done so for:

Scan Disk – no reported problems
Defrag – no problems
Clean boot – msconfig, un-ticked all in selective start-up, but fails to
load in normal mode (tried with and without “windows essentials” running in
the services tab).
Diagnostic start-up, again fails during normal start-up.

Anything else I can try??

Would repair windows installation work?

Many thanks

Successful safe mode boot - no normal boot - indicates a driver problem.
Check help function regarding use of bootlog file.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, I have started bootlog. But as the machine fails to
start would the log file be completed? I have examined it but can't see any
errors. What am I looking for?

Many thanks

I am having the same problem. I have reinstalled xp home and pro several
times. I found a problem with the partitions but that did not help. I
have found that if I boot to safe mode and run NDD32.exe from the
Norton system works disk (2003) and schedule a fix on reboot it fixes
the problem. Windows will then boot. When I reboot there are two
options. "Turn off machine" and "Restart". If I choose restart no
problem but if I choose Turn off machine then it hangs on reboot until
I run NDD32.exe again. NDD32 seems to run chkdsk /f but I have been
unable so far to get this to substitue for NDD32.exe.

I you find a solution please email me )
