View Full Version : Toolbar/header rearranges itself

I don't know if this is a Windows problem, an IE 7 problem, neither or both.

Periodically, when changing pages while browsing, my toolbar will reaggange
itself despite the fact that it is "locked". The 3 lines of content will
become 4 and will be completely re-configured. I need to "unlock it" in
oredr to repair it.

I had not had this problem until I installed both IE 7 and the Kerio
firewall, but that could be coincidence. I am using all the standard
watchdogs and have been for some time: SpywareBlaster, Defender, Spybot,
Ad-Aware, Avast in XP Home SP 2 patched.

Sorry, my spellchecker is asleep...the word is "rearrange".

It's very unlikely that the firewall is the problem and there have been a
number of strange problems reported after installing IE7.

There is a layout registry settings for the Toolbars in IE. Sometimes this
gets corrupted.
Close all IE windows and delete (or rename) the following key VALUE under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser

ITBarLayout

The next time you start IE, ITBarLayout will be recreated to reflect IE
toolbars. You then have to re-customize the toolbars to show that you want
(right click on an empty error of a toolbar and check the toolbars you want
to show).

By the way, the ITBarLayout holds true for Windows Explorer and the Shell
Explorer windows (you'll see them there as well under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

I have several questions regarding these instructions, please, as I'm not
familiar with registry adjustments:

1. Is there a significance to the word "VALUE" in the first paragraph being
in all caps?

2. Is the word "ITBarLayout" supposed to be attached to the end of the word
"WebBrowser" in the registry key description? It does not appear so on my
display. If it is not, what is it's significance?

3. Will this repair stabilize all the other contents of this area of my
screen..."SpoofStick", the McAffee "Site Advisor", all of which move about
as well?

The significance of the caps in VALUE is to make sure that you know to add
it in the right pane.

Renaming the Value for the registry key seems to have corrected the problem
for the present.

Thank you!
