Hi. I have a new temp folder that was created and I don't know where it came
from. The temp folder is in C:/temp. When I open the folder there is a folder
called FixEngine which is empty. Does anyone else have this folder. In the
last few days I installed all Microsoft updates, Installed Windows Media
Player 11 and The final version of Windows Defender 1.1.1593. Probably one of
these actions could of created this temp folder. Any help understanding these
created folders would be appreciated.

Some applications do create temporary folders but they usually clean up
after themselves by deleting these folders.
I Googled FixEngine: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=FixEngine
Take a peak and see if anything looks familiar.

Thanks JS for your help. This temp folder just created is placed in an
unusual place as c:/temp. I have a temp folder in c:/windows/temp which is
the normal folder. this appears to be a newly created temp folder with an
empty folder in it called FixEngine. There was nothing that looked familiar
in the google search or on the Microsoft.com website. This folder had to come
from somewhere.

Are you sure the "temp" folder is empty? I also have the c:\temp folder only it has in it a subfolder "{26CBF547-15B5-4AFC-83FC-41122909B5A4}" which I think is normally a hidden folder. Inside that is a file named "DDEInstall.fab". These are all dated November 3, 2006. I, too, am curious as to its source. In the meantime, I'm going to rename the "temp" directory and see if anything crashes! By the way, the file extension .fab doesn't get any results on Google nor is it in either of the file extension sites I visited - http://filext.com/ or http://whatis.techtarget.com/file-extension-list-A/0,289933,sid9,00.html.

Hi jwsmith3. Thanks for your comment. My created folder is c:/temp/FixEngine.
After research it seems that this folder was created by hp.com
(Hewitt-Packard). It appears that when I check to see if my printer needs any
software update, this folder is created. I'm just going to leave these
folders alone at this time.

Yes, you're right, mine is c:\temp\FixEngine\{26.......}. Anyway, I renamed it c:\unknowntemp and I'll see what happens.
