How do I stop a Norton popup appearing every time I turn on my computer
telling me that I need to install it - I don't want to!

Need to install what? If this is a legitimate Norton product that was
installed improperly, go to Symantec's website and look for tech
support for your particular Norton program.

Otherwise, please tell us exactly what the popup says. Perhaps it isn't
coming from Norton at all.

I had Norton Anti Virus software in my computer, as part of my Rogers Yahoo
programme. I should have left well enough alone. I downloaded the newest
version of the McAfee Security suite. ( Advertising won me over.) It seemed
to remove on its' own the Norton system.???? as I don't see it anywhere in
"add/delete programmes" list. I can still access my Yahoo mail, but not Yahoo
Messenger. I called the help line and was told the problem was between McAfee
and me. I should have left well enough alone.

More details would be good, but if you've previously had or tried to remove
a Norton product and are now getting this message, google "Norton Removal
Tool", and the download from here:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

should clean up the debris and get rid of the popups.

Thanks Patrick. I totally screwed up and wasted $50. but the problem is
fixed. I tried to install a 2007 security system when the old system from
another supplier was still in the CPU. The older one came " free" from my
internet provider, and I didn't know that it is regularly updated by the
supplier. I didn't need another security system.
Anyways , being as Ihad bought it, I deleted the older package and
downloaded the one I had paid for. Live and learn.
