Disabled graphics adapter

[PC4U Australia]

I have a client who has disabled her graphics adapter in the display
properties section. now when she boots up she gets the windows xp screen
(black one) then the screen goes black but continues to load windows without
display. i am sure there must be a simple solution to re enable the graphics
but i cant put my finger on it.

any assistance greatly appreciated.

I wonder if booting into safe mode and
doing a system restore to an earlier time
would help?

She did something more than disable display adapter.
Adapters and graphics cards must meet a basic criteria
so that some sort of display is shown - even without drivers.
I suspect your "client" changed display options, you describe
a symtom that can occur with some budget laptops/Desktops
when an alternative output is selected. If she has selected "S-Video"
output, that may have disabled other outputs (VGA/DVI).
If it has an S-Video output, try connecting to a display via that,
if an image is seen on that display (CRT TV?) Then reset output.

Unfortunately she did just disable it in the property box because any
graphics card put into the system and also the onboard graphics all respond
the same. all that is needed to solve the problem is to re enable it. the
problem is that i cannot see what i am doing to do this as there is no
display.

unfortunately when i try to boot into safe mode it stalls at
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mup

Indications being your client's PC has on-board graphics chip from Intel,
the error message she receives again indicates others have had similar
error message, and it seems it is a driver corruption issue:

Amongst the above 36 solutions that may have a positive result.
"Insert the Windows XP Home Edition/Professional/Media Center
Recovery disk that came with your system.
Reboot your computer-> Press F12 Rapidly -> when the Boot Menu
loads, choose "Boot From CD-ROM." When all files in the Disk are
loaded, choose "R" for Repair."

Now it gets more convoluted, as a MS KB search with criteria:

This article puts the blame again on an MoBo embedded vid chipset driver,

But as you rummage around the above links it is apparent it is corruption
that is the cause, not disabling of graphics chipset.
Another last choice option, is if you have a spare agp graphics card,
assuming the PC is a budget model with a free/unused agp slot,
install the card, all cards must meet a basic criteria and be recognised.
It just might give you an output to display?
