View Full Version : No sound after editing a .mov file

Hi all, this is my second post I don't know what happened to the first. I've
been using Ulead Video Studio 7 for about two years without a hitch. I've
tried the Ulead help site but there's nothing like the problem I've got. All
of a sudden after I edit a .mov file, eg cut some scenes out or add say a
transisition frame, when I save as an mpeg file that file has no sound. All I
get when I play the clip is a click when it starts and a click when it stops.
It's the same sound that you get when you turn a light switvh on/off and a
radio is nearby.. A week ago I had to do a clean install of xp because my
hard disk failed, after the install I got my sound back. Now it's gone again,
it's driving me nuts. Thanks.

When you say you got "sound back" after a clean reinstall,
so it's not just a Ulead produced clip that the problem is with?
You have no sounds on PC?

If it is just a Ulead problem.
Your header shows it to be a Quicktime .mov file you are editing
to produce an mpeg file? Apple and MS are not good neighbours,
it could simply be an issue of compatibility.
1) When you have the edited clip in Ulead timeline, does it playback
with sound from there? (That is basically as a preview, not yet a
produced mpeg)
2) What media player are you using to playback the produced clip?
3) If you open Ulead and import the produced mpeg to timeline.
does it playback with sound from there? Can the Ulead software
that produced the clip, can that play it?

I'm not familiar with Ulead7, but I know 8 and 10.
Have you tried saving the edited clip as another file type?
Example would be to import/edit an .mov clip and save as
..mov and also as a .wmv, an exercise to determine if it is a mediaplayer/
codec/software/Quicktime/Ulead/compatibilty issue etc.

Thanks Stealing for the quick reply. I'll try to answer your questions.

I have always had sound on my PC, it's just with Ulead Video Studio 7 that
I've got no sound. When I import a .mov file and preview it I've got sound.
If I drag it to the timeline and play it there's no sopund only a click.
Regarding your comment about apple & MS not being goog neighbours, I've been
doing the same thing in Ulead VS 7 for two years without a hitch.

Outside of VS 7 I playback the mpeg file using Windows Media Player 1 &
Quicktime to view a .mov file.

If I import the meg file to VS 7 timeline it will play but I still have no
sound. I saved the file as wmv file and played it in Media player 11 but
still no sound.

I hope I've answered all you questions. Thanks

It seems your ulead 7 software may need patching or is corrupt
or maybe an MS win update has caused issues?
Have you tried seeing if an win update restore point was created
that correlates with the onset of problem?
If so, try system restore back to that point,
If that fixes, then download updates one-by-one to discern what
update causes the problem?
Also, try the ulead support forums:
