View Full Version : All my printer drivers have disappeared!!

Hello,
Have been an XP user for many years, but I'm no techie, and this has
flumuxed me. All the print drivers have completely disappeared. I had about
4 or 5 in there and they have all gone. So now I cannot print. I also
cannot install them again, as I go to 'add a printer' and it comes up with a
red cross and a statement 'operation could not be completed'.
So now I have no print capabilities and no way to add a printer. What can I
do?
PS - I was going to reinstall the OS - but I cannot find the original disc.
I'm on XP SP1 currently.
PPS - I have recently added a new printer but it was working fine before
this happened and there appears no compelling event to make the PC act this
way. I did see a number of errors before this happened referring to spooling
subsystem, they have now gone and I don't know what they refered to anyway.
Is there anyway to get around this without buying a new copy of the OS and
reloading all my apps - which is something I really, really, wouldn't want to
do, as it would take ages.
Thx in advance
Bruce

Your printer spooler seems to have stopped.

Hi Cari,
I looked at some other articles and kinda worked that out. I did the who
net start spooler thingy and they reappeared. However, after I do this I get
a warning come up about Spooler Subsystem failure. The spooler stops and my
printers disappear again. How could I go about rectifying this error? I
don't know how it happened but I presume an error in another application
caused it to fail. I have recently tried to update the firmware of my new
printer - an HP LaserJet 3055 (upon manufacturers recommendation) and it's
kinda happened since then, but was working directly afterwards. Other than
reinstalling the OS, could there be another way round this. Oh by the way -
stupidly I didn't use a restore point before I messed around with it. Last
restore point was some point last year so cannot use.
Any help you could give would be much appreciated.
Regards

Thx Cari.
I don't have a Lemark but the rest of the stuff seems relevant so I'll give
it a try and hope not to screw it up!! :-)
Your help is much appreciated.
