system crash when copying CD

Every time I try to copy a CD using Nero or Media Player 9, the system shuts
down.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I'm at the end of my rope here.

*A* CD or *any* CD? There's a large difference. The former could be DRM
related, the latter could be hardware related.
