My daughter is in college. I built her a laptop. Can someone recommend
a cheap source for a legal copy of XP Home? The school doesn't sell the
OS. Thanks.

Search online. Look at Newegg.com as a start.

Yes, I use newegg a lot. I was just hoping that someone had a cheaper
tried and true source. Newegg has it for $90. Not a bad price.

You might get it for a couple dollars cheaper but not much.

The difference in cost between XP Home and Pro is negligible and the
difference in functionality in a school environment may be critical. Just
go with the Pro version. If the extra coin is that much of a deal breaker,
odds are you should be using Linux at that point anyway.

I have no suggested sources, but be sure that XP Home is OK for her. Some
colleges require that students join their domain, and XP Professional, not
Home, is required for that.
