Hi.

Right now, I don't need a new computer.

I have Windows XP (Home Edition), fully updated.

But I have been wondering, will I still be able to buy a new computer
(desktop) with Windows XP preinstalled on it after January of 2007 ? Has
Microsoft made any statements, does anyone know or have any idea when I will
no longer be able to buy a new computer with Windows XP preinstalled, based
on facts, intuition, educated guesses, insight or experience ? They probably
won't be willing to support Windows XP forever, and the other question is,
for how long will I be able to buy a new computer with Windows XP
preinstalled.

This is a concern for me.

Reviews of Vista are mixed, but the last review on Yahoo didn't exactly make
me enthousiastic, suggesting that Vista will generally be slower. (And
security is another concern).

For those who wish to read that particular review:

I don't know how long the link will remain valid.

Thanks for any info.

If you want another perspective on Vista besides reviews stop by the
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general newsgroup and take a peek.
Personally Vista runs well on this system, and I'm actually composing this
message in Vista on a P4 2.53 GHz, 1 GB RAM, with non Aero Glass capable
video. It runs. Security is greatly increased over XP.

It's up to the computer manufacturer's to decide how long they will offer
computers with a choice of either Vista or XP. XP will still be available
for at least 12 months after Vista's release.
