We just got a new laptop and would like to transfer data and or programs
from one comptuter to the new laptop in particular Quicken and Excel .The
first computer is running Quicken 2005 and the second is running Quichen
2006. Both are on a home network.

I have a Nero program on my computer which allows me to back up very easily
and since we are on a netrwork,I thought I might access the the old
computer with Quicken 2o05 ,copy the entrire program to a cd , and re-install
it in the new computer but I do not seem to be avle to do this.Although I
have access tho the "c" crive",Quckcken is not available.

What other ways might this data transferbe accomplished?

Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated.
Thamks,

robert

Data can be transferred by CD, DVD, USB hard drive, flash drive, etc. Most
programs can't be transferred that way. They need to be reinstalled on the
other system from their original installation media. When programs are
installed all but the most simple of them create entries in the registry,
along with placing their files on the disk. You might be able to duplicate
the files, but not all the registry entries, especially not for a larger,
more complicated program such as Quicken. The only way to do this is to
install the program fresh on the other system.
