Making a wireless home connection to a second computer

I recently had fiberoptic connection installed to my primary computer and am
using Windows XP Home edition with Verizon as my provider. After this
installation was completed with a new Actiontec wireless router my daughter
could no longer link up to this computer. I have received very limited help
from Verizon and even had a local school tech support person come to assist
me with no success. Therefore I believe I need two things.

1. Update her computer from Windows 98 to Windows XP. Do I need a buy the
entire program or can I buy a "second PC" license?
2. I need help in configuring her computer so it will connect to my primary
via wireless connection.

Before you do, make sure your daughter's PC has sufficient clout
to run WinXP. It demands a lot more resources than Win98!

Upgrading for the sake of establishing network connectivity is
a waste of time and money. If your wireless network adapter
is recognised under Win98 then the steps to configure your
network are much the same under Win98 as under WinXP.

You must purchase a WinXP upgrade CD & licence.

You have to configure the usual things such as the ESSID, the security
level and the pass phrase or security key. The process is described in
detail in the manual that came with your Access Point. Since your Access
Point is most likely a DHCP server, you should enable DHCP on your
daughter's PC.

You also need to check to see if a new firewall was
installed in your system and if not were changes made to the
current firewall. As Pegasus stated, it would be a waste of
money to upgrade to a later OS just to establish network
connectivity.

Can she connect to the internet using the wireless adapter
that is currently installed on her computer?
