To most of you this will probably be a basic question. To
me not knowing how to make the requested change has become
a pain in the rump.

I always view my files in "detail" view. To do so I have
to go to view and make the change. And not always does the
change stay in effect for when I go back to the folder
later in time.

Is there a way to specify view "detail" as a default
setting for all my files listings?

If you could be of assistance I would greatly appreciate
your help.

Thank you.

Have you tried to open Windows Explorer, set the View to Details, and then
open Tools|Folder Options|View and tell it to Apply to All Folders?

Then go to the MS PowerToys web site (XP PowerToys at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp) and
download the SP1 version of TweakUI (assuming you have XP SP1
installed).

On this tool you will find an item in Explorer under Customizations
called "Folders to Remember". Set this to, say, 1000. Then Explorer will
remember your customized folder settings for a longer period of time.
Note that this takes more memory.
