View Full Version : Screen "magnification" "zooms" up upon connection to projector

I recently upgraded to a Dell Latitude 520, XP, SP2...and when trying to use
my external monitor, found that when opening various Windows apps, the screen
would "zoom" up to 400% and could not get back down. Somehow, playing with
display options, overcame this. BUT, newest "quirk" is this problem recurred
when I tried to connect to an external projector. The "behavior" makes it
look like a key is stuck which makes it zoom. When I disconnect, and unplug,
the laptop display goes back to "normal", i.e., screen is at 100% .

Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions, but I'm seeing very similar
behaviour with my new D420 (similar machine!) upon switching to a
external projector via Alt-F8. Excel, Powerpoint and Firefox all zoom
in as far as possible. Selecting items from drop-downs in IE (v5) is
not possible, as they scroll to the top immediately. I note in
Powerpoint that there's a constant quiet "click click..." as though the
Page Up key is being constantly emulated(?). I've played around with
screen settings, ensuring I switch to a single monitor - I normally use
two on my docking station - before switching to external monitor, all
to no avail. I've passed this to our IT department, but so far I have
no resolution; as someone who regularly needs to make presentations
this is annoying, to say the least. One difference is that my machine
does *not* become normal on disconnecting - I need to restart (although
I haven't tried a simple Log Off).
Did you ever find a solution?

I have a user with a Dell Latitude D620 that is having this same issue.
Does anyone else have a a solution?

I had a dig in the Dell US support forums, and found this thread:
http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?
board.id=proj_2200MP&thread.id=2737

I can confirm that my problems are resolved if I kill Intellitype by
terminating the itype.exe process, and so have a workaround until
(if!) Dell/Microsoft fix this problem.
