Just recently my fiance's computer has developed a problem, we start the
computer and it shows the diagnostics then to the windows loading sign and
then nothing. The sounds of windows starting can be heard through the
speakers but there is no display. Can anyone help?

Can the computer be set back via DOS or some other way without having to
load completely into windows?

WinXP has no DOS to go back to. But, try Tapping F8 on next Startup. If
you get a Menu select Safe Mode. IF WinXP
loads up Ok in Safe Mode try a System Restore. Start>All
Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. If no
help then you may want to try a Repair Install of WinXP. Check here at
Michael's site for more info.

First turn off the computer and carefully remove the monitor connector. Look
for any bent pins. If there are bent pins, you may be able to straighten
them. It is unlikely that this is the cause of your problem, but it is good
to be thorough.

The computer cannot be "set back via DOS" because there is no DOS. Can you
get into Safe Mode? Do this by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the
computer is starting up. If you can get into Safe Mode, then uninstall the
video card. Shut down and unplug the machine and swap the video card out
for a known-working one. Now restart the machine into Regular Mode. Are
things working now? If yes, you know the original video card failed and
needs to be replaced.

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts with
known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA). Have all
your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.

Sounds like a display driver issue, boot in safe mode and change your video
card to standard VGA. then ensure your proper model make of video card and
download the drivers from the maker not Microsoft and install those new
drivers.
