I have been having great difficulty for the past year with our XP Pro dual
boot installation.

Recently I was researching why I cannot install an HP scanner and Sony
Ericsson Mobile Phone Monitor devices. I discovered some values in the
registry:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ins taller\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\0056E609E6026FB45BDA0D71668DC525

The value for this is:

E?\Program Files\Common Files\HHD Software\ToolBox\1034\toolbox.html

So far I have found 1,359 values that begin with, but not limited to the
following:

E?\Windows

E?\Program Files

Does the Question mark EVER belong in the path?

Here are the value entries(which I believe might be wrong) for the
Installation Sources that are in
HKLM,Software,Microsoft,Windows,CurrentVersion,Set up:

E:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS
E:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
G:\I386
E:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\DOWNLOADS\NETGEAR
E:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\DOWNLOADS\MS\MSKEYBOARD
E:\WINDOWS\SERVICEPACKFILES\I386
E:\WINDOWS
C:\WINDOWS
A:
E:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\

Are all of these supposed to be there? Each is on a separate line and it is
a Multi-String value key.

We have a dual boot, Win98 is on C and XP Pro is on E. The cd rom is the G
drive.
I have been using a slipstreamed XP Pro w/SP2 for the repair installations
and also I extracted from the original CD the I386 folder so I would not have
to insert the CD whenever I ran scannow.

I hope I have explained-I didn't want this post to be too long.

I've been using PowerTools2006 and Registry Mechanic, but neither seems to
care about the question mark that appears in some of the paths'.

Thanks in Advance from the great Lone Star State!!!
