I guess I meant deleting some of the program icons that
appear in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen - lower
right hand side of the screen. Delete is not a choice
when you right click.

Hi Michele,
That would be the "system tray". Many programs that load in the tray =
have an option to either not run (at bootup) or not to show the icon. =
Open the program associated with the icon and take a look through the =
options.
Also, if you want to keep the programs running but have the icons hidden =
(if there is not an option within the program), you can do the =
following:
- Right-click on the 'Start' button or the Taskbar
- Select 'Properties' from the content menu
- Select the "Taskbar" tab (at the top) if not alread selected
- Put a check next to "Hide inactive icons"
- Click on the "Customize" button
- In the "Current Items" list, go to the program your concerned with
- Click on the "behavior" for the particular program
- Select "Always hide" from the list
- Click OK when complete

Hi Michele,
Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.
Other options for removal:
Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.
Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup (Line 148)

Or...remove the runkeys from here: Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
For Past Items:
Remove Past Items From the Notification Area (Line 53)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Once done, Open Task Manager, click the Processes tab, click Explorer.exe,
and then click End Process. In Task Manager, click File, click New Task,
type explorer, and then click OK.
The "Past Items" values are written to the registry as part of the user log
off process. This is why it is necessary to "crash" Explorer, so the system
will re-read the new values, and not retain the old ones that are already in
memory from a reboot.
