View Full Version : Severly strange XP boot problem

Every time XP boots I get a list of options:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Netowrking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last known good configuration
Start Windows normally
No matter which one I choose it appears to load files and
then reboots itself and repeats the proceess.
This happened after the computer was booted with a Windows
98 boot floppy. I answered yes to enable large disk
support.
What do I need to do to get it back on track?
Thanks!

Hi
If you are in that particular 'loop', you may have to perform a 'Repair =
Install' - unless you have backed up your Registry with ERunt. A =
'Repair Install' will lose any Windows Updates that you have installed, =
unfortunately - which means downloading them all again. Someone may =
have a fix for this, but I have had to use either ERunt or the 'Repair =
Install' to get out of this 'loop'.

This is one of the reasons that so many use Drive Image, TruImage, Ghost or
other similar imaging programs. Five minutes and you are up and running!

Hi
That's correct, but this particular loop is saying that the Registry is =
'worn out'. A backup of the Registry using ERunt will 'normally' solve =
the problem - unless NTFS is being used, ERunt will work from 'DOS'. =
Although, it is a good idea to use either Drive Image, Ghost etc.

Where did you get the boot disk??? If it asked if you wanted
to enable large disk support, you were in FDISK.
