Hi:
I am scanning my 35mm slides, saving them on a cd-rw for future use to
import in a video. When I play the cd-rw on my television to evaluate the
photos, I receive frequent "data error" messages. Is there a problem with
the way I am saving my files to the cd-r that is causing this message? Is
there a way to fix the problem without rescanning the photos? I would like
to keep a photo cd to play on my TV but the error messages are annoying.
Thanks for your help

Just some thoughts...

Apparently, your DVD player is JPEG compliant...
are all the scans saved in the JPEG format?

Are you saving to your hard drive first and then
burning the CD?

Maybe file size is an issue...scans can be memory
intensive.

Also...The problem may be with the CD-RW...a CD-R
may be a better choice of media.

Hi again:
Yes to your questions regarding compatibility. They are all saved as JPEGS.
I am saving on my desktop and then writing to the cd-rw and then putting it
into the TV/DVD player. Are there "thumbs" being attached to these pictures
that the dvd player can't read causing the error? As I move the files from
the desktop onto the CD-RW, I receive a message about thumbs. I don't
understand anything about thumbs. I am saving about 36 pictures in each file.

Please help. I haven't yet saved to a CD-R because I don't have enough
pictures scanned.

I suspect the message you are receiving
about Thumbs refers to Thumbs.db and
that should not be causing the problem.
I still think the problem is caused by your
choice of media.

I guess you are aware that you can add
more files to a previously burned CD-R
until the disk is full? Just don't choose to
close the disk until you have added the
last batch.

Thank you for directing me to the site on thumbs. I was able to rule out
there are no thumbs on the CD. If you would be so kind, can you direct me to
a site on different options for saving? When I have saved to a CD, it won't
play on the TV. If I write to a CD, it will play on the TV but it closes out
the CD. I can't possibly keep 2000 scanned pics on my hard drive to save at
one time. Thank you again for your help.

My Sony DVD player will display images
on my TV from a CD that is not closed...
your hardware may not have the same
option.

It's best if you save your scans in a folder
on your hard drive and then burn your CD.

I would suggest that if you are burning
a CD and then deleting from your hard
drive...that you make more than one copy.
It also may be a good idea to purchase
an external hard drive to store your image
collection on. What I'm saying is that
maintaining more than one backup source
is good insurance.

Maybe these articles will offer some ideas:

Do you have software that came with your
burner? Nero? Roxio? ??
