I want to lift some stills from my home renovation dvd and turn them into
photo's on my pictures file, can anyone help with advice on how to or
software I can use.

Hello,

If you are able to play the DVD in Windows Media Player, hit Ctrl+I when the
video is playing and Windows Media Player should prompt you to where to save
the still.

When you play the DVD on your computer,
the decoder you are using should have an
option to do a screen capture. Check the
help file.

PowerDVD also can do frame grabs

open it with windows moive maker ( inport } you can do frame x frame
