View Full Version : Maxtor slave drive

This is not perhaps directly XP Pro related but I am hoping that there is
maybe someone out there that can help.
I have just installed a slave drive (Maxtor 30Gb - formatted correctly). It
has been a slave before on another machine with no problems. The jumpers are
set correctly - checked and double checked. The thing is that when I boot up
it whips me at lighting speed into XP Pro. I have tried to get into BIOS by
hitting all sorts of F keys but straight into Windows it goes. I don't even
get the 'setup' option Sometimes the drive is there, more often than not it
isn't.
All I really want is the chance to get into option screen and see it if the
slave drive can be auto-recognised.
Any help gratefully received
TIA

Which key you press to get into BIOS will depend on motherboard. DEL is one
of the most common, do you not get an on screen message during POST telling
you which key to use?

Hi Kenny,
It USED to be F1, all I get during POST is 'Update Success................'
That's it!

Do any of your F keys work at boot up, does F8 take you to a menu screen?
Are you doing a Restart or a fresh boot? Does your keyboard have dual
functions on the F keys, mine does and I have to use the F Lock key to get
them to work?

1-Check with the company that sold you the computer.
2-Check with the motherboard manufacturer
3-Check with the BIOS company. One of these will supply you with the
correct answer. Would be simpler if you had a manual and/or searched it.

How to get into your BIOS depends on what motherboard/BIOS you
have. One common way is to press the Del key when you first power
on, but that's not necessarily right for your computer. Watch the
screen carefully when you first boot; there's often a message
there telling you what to do. If not, check your system
documentation or check with your vendor.

Or just try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for
you.

Obviously you have not hit the correct keys to get into your BIOS. Delete
key and I remember on some computers you had to hit ctr-alt-alt (strange).
