I am attempting to learn the USMT 2.62 quickly for a migration from Win2K to
XP (I know this is late, but it is what it is). What I am trying to do first
is run <scanstate> from a central location (my PC) in order to pull user
settings from several PC's into a centraized repository on the LAN. Is this
possible or do you have to actually download the USMT on every single PC that
you need to pull user settings from and then run <scanstate> locally (this
would seem to defeat the purpose of the tool). If what I am trying to
attempt is possible then how does one accomplish this? I have been trying to
do it by adding an [IncludeUsers] section to a <miguser.inf> file and then
listing the PC's and profiles that I wanted with itemized lines with the
syntax <Computername/username>. When this did not seem to work I added my
domain name in front of the username. Something is happening that is
creating a <USMT2.UNC> folder within my repository that contains an
<IMG00001.DAT> file along with a <status> file that has no extension. Is
this what ought to be happening? If it is it might seem simpler for me to
continue to manually copy the profiles up to my repository and then bring the
contents down again when the user first logs into the new/rebuilt with XP PC
(at least I can tell what is what that way).

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.
