This may be the wrong place to post, but I'll try. Thanks
in advance. This is my configuration: I have an XP Pro
pc, NTFS file system, set up as a server connected to a
router in a small home network. I have Win98se connected
to the router. I have no problems with connecting to the
Internet, with either pc. My XP machine reads the 98
machine. My 98 machine cannot read XP. I do know the
answer to this, Fat cannot read NTFS. I have a small
application that I use and is supported by the
manufacturer. It is installed on XP, seems to work ok. It
is installed on 98, seems to work ok. The manufacture
wants PC Anywhere install on 98, as to assist me in
trouble shooting. He has tried to map a network drive to
my XP pc from 98, this does not work, but he insist that
the different file systems are not a concern. I disagree,
can anyone help me with this?

The problem isn't with the file structure. The problem is you haven't bound
F&P sharing to the NIC on the XP box and haven't enabled any shares.
Run the networking wizard on the XP machine. Take defaults on everything
except network bridging if that comes up. Do not allow the wizard to bridge
multiple network adapters.

Your hypothesis is incorrect. When sharing files over a network, the file
system is immaterial as it does *NOT* affect the files, only the medium on
which they are stored, therefore a 98 machine can read files stored on an XP
system. Please note that the salient phrase here is "over a network"; if you
had XP and 98 on the same partition and the XP partition was NTFS formatted
then 98 would NOT be able to read its files or even acknowledge that the XP
partition existed.
