Hi!
We had problems with internet explorer 6 that we couldn't solve so we
decided to reinstall windows XP.
We followed procedure 315341 for that
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341/)
and we discovered that our windows is service pack 2, but the CD we have is
older, so we followed procedure 900871 to integrate SP2 files into the
installation folder.
Then we repeated procedure 315341 but during the installation many files
were missing and the installation was not completed and now the OS can't
start.
What to do next? To reinstall windows from CD? And if so, in this procedure
we should input which windows is currently installed. How do we know that?
Thanks!

If you have access to a second machine, you should find this an easy and painless way
to create a slipstream disk w/SP2. First download:
Latest version AutoStreamer 1.0.33
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/Autostreamer.shtml

Next use the instructions here to create a new slipstreamed disk:
How to use AutoStreamer to Slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 2
http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/using_autostreamer/using_autostreamer.html

When finished run the repair install.

Either your slipstream procedure went wrong, or possibly you have a memory
problem.
Test the memory, http://www.memtest.org/ over several passes
