After cleaning off old unused programs on my computer,
when I open Windows Explorer and click on the 'file' or
edit' commands on the taskbar, the system hangs -
hourglass appears and just stays there till I go to
taskmaster and end the program. Then it says "explorer
not responding' when I end program.

It also hangs when I try to right click the 'my computer'
icon to run error check on the hard drive. In this case,
I have to reboot to unhang.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do you go into Explorer right after the uninstalls? If yes, perhaps
System Restore is still busy copying files and may be interfering. By
waiting a minute or two, it would give time for System Restore to
complete its housekeeping.
