WRONG, I upgraded to pro for the extra security and group settings, and I'm
a home user.

Yes

Only in safe mode. And there are more than a few differences between home and Pro.
All my points can be confirmed at either http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/choosing2.asp, or http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_home_pro.asp
1- Remote Desktop
2- Joining a Domain
3- File Encryption
4- Advanced Security Settings: Only available to home users when in safe mode.
5- Internet Information Services (I.E. Web server)
6- Multilanguage User Interface
7- Multiple Processors
8- Auto install, configure, repair, and removal of programs
9- Offline Files and Folders
10- Unattended Install
11- Sysprep Tool
12- Remote Install
13- Group Policy
14-Dynamic Disk support
15 -Roaming Profiles (yes, I know that is for a domain, but the point is still there)
16 -Local Security Policy

Paul, let the OP speak for himself. ;-)
You have a much too restricted POV with regard the capabilities of HE. And
if the OP doesn't need the few additional features, then why should he run
Pro?

I never said he *should*, and if you would look at the posts, my point was
directed at the fact that you said, "Unless you have a requirement to join a
domain there's nothing you can do on Pro that can't be done on HE." Which
was incorrect as I pointed out.

And you're still wrong in your assessments of the capabilities of HE. To
expand your horizons a bit, quite thinking just inside the box and back away
from the domain centric thinking that's become predominate in the industry.

1) Apache runs on HE.
2) There are 3rd party encryption tools that run on HE.
3) Local policies can be implemented on HE.
4) etc.

Tell everyone how you really feel. ;-)
Odd how people feel that everything on the face of the earth must be
supported natively by the OS. That's sort of how MS got into legal issues to
begin with. OTOH categorically stating that a given platform is incapable of
something because it requires 3rd part tools to perform the function is a
bit much as well. There's quite a few XP supplied functions that I prefer be
handled by 3rd party tools since they do a better job.
