I have an ACER 5672WLMi Notepad running Windows XP SP2 Media Edition. The
notepad has a Synaptics Touchpad v6.2 and is using driver v7.12.13. It has a
'mouse over' or 'mouse hover' function, selecting hotlinks or defaults if the
pointer is over a link or button for 'too long' and I would like to turn this
off. ACER said they know nothing of it and sent me to Microsoft who said it's
not their problem and passed me to Synoptics. Their website says 'don't ask
us, we don't know'. Before I get caught in a loop with no exit, I thought I'd
try one more time and ask here.

Can you please suggest a remedy?
Cheers

I tried "Google" for the settings you mention but didn't find an appropriate
results. However, I download and installed a utlitiy for "Synaptics Touchpad"
but there was no such settings as you mention. This could be because of
version and model difference of Synaptics Touchpad utility.

You can check those settings under Start - Control Panel - Mouse or also
check if there is any other icon like "Pointing Devices".

Hope this help, let us know!

I had the same problem. i fixed it today.
I found the solution from reading other postings.
Since my computer is also new, i did not have any stray software loaded.
I did download the Tweak UI from the POWERTOYS and deactivated the x-mouse
function. That works.

I was assuming that you might need Mouse Hover function but you want it work
properly. Therefore, I was Googling to find a solution for your problem.
Surprize to know that you were asking to disable it. Anyhow, glad to know
that your problem is being solved.

Best of Luck!
