In the command mode in XP, the path command includes
entries not found in any autoexec, config or in the
Environmental Variables path. Where do they come from and
how can I get rid of them?

Thank you

Alan -

The additional entries found in the path are usually added by applications
when they install. This way they can refer to the path while doing a file
search. You can manually set the path but it may have adverse effects on
your applications. To change the path, do the following:

1. Right click My Computer and select 'Properties'
2. Select the 'Advanced' tab and click the 'Environment Variables' button
3. Under System Variables find the Path entry and double click it
4. Set the Variable Value field to the desired setting

AlanB,

I'm not sure if the following is the answer to your question, but check it
and see if you get the results your are seeking;

Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor\AutoRun.

In the right pane, double click Autorun and type in: cd\ as the value data
to get a "c" prompt with no subdirectories.

Post back with your results, please!
