View Full Version : NA Vista

February 19th 07, 06:04 PM
I am traveling to Canada within the next few days and planning on
buying a copy of the Vista from there (as it is considerably cheaper
there). Can I anticipate any problems activating it on a machine in
the UK? Are the North American versions only for the NA market?

Thanks IA for a prompt response,

Vijay

You should have no problems other than you'll have to change the language
from English NA to English UK I think it is. Otherwise you'll be mssing
things like the pound character, etc., that are different on the keyboards.

But, here's an important caveat: Be SURE whatever you buy in Canada for a
machine can be set to run on your 220V mains. Remember, we're 120Vac 60 Hz
in NA.

Also, check out the importing costs; usually those will drive up the cost to
you so far that it may not actually be cheaper. As I recall the import
fees were pretty hefty on computer equipment. And don't try to cheat or
it's likely your next post could be coming from a small cell<g>.

Thanks! I am only going to buy the OS and not a vista computer. So, I
don't have to worry about voltage or keyboard characters. One is
allowed sufficient personal exemption to cover import.

Thanks for your response.

The OP is buying the software (not a whole computer....) in Canada. So the
mains power supply differences are not relevant.

In all previous versions of Windows, and I doubt this has changed in
Vista, there is no difference between the version sold in the UK
compared to NA at all. The installation of a copy bought in the UK
defaults to US English, US keyboard, eight hours in the past etc.

So nothing at all to worry about.
