Will my Acronis image of my XP disk work to transfer my apps if I do a clean
install of Vista?

Arconis will not do it either.

Vista is a radically different OS than is XP.

There is no tool available that will restore apps from XP on a clean install
of Vista.

I hope your response is not indicative your other "Computer Consultant"

The answer (that you responded to) was, "Cannot transfer apps. ... Acronis
is a fantastic backup to use prior to changing over.

The answer given was correct.

The first sentence tells the OP that Acronis TrueImage will NOT transfer
applications.

The second sentence indicates it is a tool that could be used to perform a
full backup of the system before upgrading to Vista (from Windows XP.)

No where in the response you responded to is there any indication of what
you 'made up' or 'interpretted'.

Arconis *WOULD* port her apps from XP to Vista.

It would indicate to the OP that it would do what she asked.

You did not state your point anywhere nearly as clearly as *you* think you

Same issue - repeat my post.
Read the entirety of the thread over slowly.
Get a friend/neighbor/teacher to read it to you and explain it.

These lines explain the post quite clearly:

Let me point out the relevant parts...

and...

No where in there is there any mistaking that the OP could possibly use
Acronis TrueImage to transfer/port any apps to Windows Vista. It quite
literally says the polar opposite.

It does continue to let the OP know what good Acronis COULD be - in making a
backup of the current system before attempting the upgrade/clean install of
Windows Vista. A backup indicates nothing more than a snapshot of the
system that could be restored at any point. There is no inference that
anything else could be done with the backup image.

If you still do not get it - that's just sad...

No, it will not. Indeed it cannot.
The only way to move apps from one computer to another is to reinstall them
on the new computer.
However, this method may fail because the apps are not ready for the new
operating system.

Before starting this process, you need to verify from the maker that all of
the subject apps are ready for Vista. Be prepared to wait for some time
(like a year or so) for all of them to be ready.

DON'T DO IT! INSTALLING VISTA IS A HUGE MISTAKE! Look at all the problems
posted here and on the Vista forums. Even if your existing hardware works,
nothing is going to be any different, so why do it? Do you really want to go
through a format of your main drive and reinstall of your original operating
system?

Whenever a new version of *anything* comes out, you see problems posted on
the newsgroups. But realize two things:

1. If you're reading about problems *here*, this where people come with
their problems, not with their successes. You get a very distorted view of
what's going on in the real world here; as someone once said, "hang around a
transmission shop and you will think that all cars have transmission
problems."

2. Most problems, by far, that people report here have nothing to do with
defects in the software. They result from people's ignorance, from bad or
inadequate hardware, from old drivers, from viruses, from spyware, and so
on. And except for very rare situations, they always get a fix for their
problems, and in most cases, that fix is a very simple one to implement.

I've had Vista Ultimate RTM installed her since November 18, and it's been
rock-solid. I haven't had a single problem with it.
