Hi
I have samsung scd-27 digital camcorder. I want to transfer the
video from my camcorder to my laptop which has xp mediacenter as OS. I
have a dv cable. I have conntected camcorder(dv inout) and laptop
(1394 port) using dv cable. When i connect my xp should say new
hardware found right? but it is not saying any thing. when i tried to
capture using movie maker i am not able to capture. How can i solve
this issue? please help me.

Thanks
Nurul

There is no 'ding'? Are you powering the camcorder from A/C power
(external) or by its internal battery.... it needs to be on A/C power. XP
will also not see the camcorder if it is not turned on and in VCR mode. XP
cannot see any device that is not turned on.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I tried with the both external power(A.C) and
battery. But there is no use. Still not able to recognize. Do i need
to make any changes to my 1394 card? or camera? Because camera DV port
is in/out. To make this port as out do i need to make any change and
also to my laptop card? let me know.

Let's try to work this out..... if you have a friend with a PC that has a
firewire port, ask if you can try connecting the camcorder on their PC.
This will prove to us that the cable and firewire port on the camcorder are
working OK if it connects to your friend's PC.

If they also have a (working) camcorder, ask them if they can connect it to
your notebook.... this should prove if the firewire port on your notebook
works OK.

Hi Cari
Thanks for the reply. Actually i have two laptops. I tried with
both of the laptops. But both laptops are not recognizing my camera.
one more thing i want to tell u here is i am able to transfer images
using usb cable from my camcorder to my laptop. But when i tried to
use dv cable its not recognizing. Do you think problem with cable? or
camcorder. I dont think there is a problem with 1394 port. because i
tried with both laptops.

Thanks
Nurul

It could be either the cable or the firewire port on the camera. I've heard
of success from some folks when they wiggle the cable at the camcorder end.

Hi Cari
Thanks for the reply. I tried with all the methods. But no use.
I tried this method also..i have copied MSDV,sys file from C:\WINDOWS
\Driver Cache\i386 to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers directory. Its
version is 5.3.2600.2601. Is this correct? after doing this also i am
not able to see in device list. Could you please help me on this? i
have updated with all the hot fix. Is there any method to check
whether my 1394 port is working or not?

Thanks
Nurul

Only by getting it to recognize a firewire device. Do you have a friend who
will let you borrow a digital camcorder or other firewire device, just to
see if it can be recognized?

Hi,
I'm having the same problem. I've checked my camcorder and firewire cable
on another system and it works well. My PC does not recognise my DV
camcorder and doesn't list it in Device Manager.
