View Full Version : CD ROM driver corrupted or missing??
TG

Don't know if it was a hack, virus, or me, but I lost the
ability to use my cd rom devices (2). Device Manager says
the driver is corrupted or missing.?!

If this is a recent issue, try using System Restore to take you back to a
time prior to having this issue. Start\All Programs\Accessories\System
Tools\System Restore.

I have the same problem - very strangely happened when I
restarted my system. No viruses or anything, but I can't
use the WinXP CD to restore the drivers now. LAME.

The driver that controls the cdrom drives is CDROM.SYS
You may have other issue if youdrives just stopped
working. Have you trued switching the cdrom drive to
another IDE Chain. (I.e. If the CDROM drive is located
on the Primary Slave IDE chain you may want to see if the
drive works in the Secondary Master or Slave IDE chain.
If it works there then you may have a bad IDE cable. If
it does not work there then you may have a bad cdrom
drive or a corrupt driver.
Hope that Helps.

In Device Manager, right click on the CD Rom drives
and "Remove" them, reboot. XP will pick them up and
hopefully correct your problem with a new install of the
drivers.
