my pc had xp pro on it and i ran into problems so i backed up the
drive on an external drive.

i had to reformat the computer and install xp home edition as the
other disk is lost. The home edition has not got backup on it and
does not seem to support this.

Is there any way i can restore the origional backup file to my pc.

Backup is an addirional install with XP Home. I think the file you need is
in the Valueadd folder on the CD. Add/Remove programs, windows components
then find Backup. Have the CD in.
