View Full Version : After I have shut my computer down, it will reboot on its own.

I am running XP - Home, and turn the computer off when I
shut down. After 30 minutes or so, sometimes as long as
6 or 7 hours, my computer will turn itself back on. I
have recently installed a DSL modem for internet access,
and after a couple of weeks, the modem cannot receive the
DSL signal. At the same time this happened, my computer
started powering back up on its own. I have been assured
this has nothing to do with the modem, it is common in
XP, but I have been running XP for over a year and have
never had this problem before. Can any body help me out
with this?

I don't know if this is one problem or two. However, here's one area
you can look at:

Control Panel \ System \ Hardware \Device Manager
Click to expand the modem area
Right-click your modem
Properties
Power Management tab
Uncheck "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby"
Apply and okay your way out
