2 virus checker programs

Well, technically it can be done if you really, really want to, but it is
NOT a good idea. Having two different products checking all your mail etc.
is a wise move, in a corporate environment, but you can't really do it on
just a single home machine.

Someone in the office did once manage to get one of our servers running with
both Sophos Anti-Virius and Network Associates Netshield. The server would
certainly have been virus free, but it was also completely unusable, as both
anti-virus products fought with each other to get access to scan each &
every file used.

I would say so. I'm running NAV '02 and the free AVG software from Grisoft.
Both are set to scan in/out email. I have them set to scan my system daily,
but at different times 4 hours apart. I've never had any conflict. I don't
know how any other well known AV program such as McAfee would work with AVG
though.

I once saw a problem at a customer of mine where two virus scanners had been
installed on a machine, they were both set for Heuseric scan and this type
of scan looks for suspicious activity, anyway the two virus scanners found
each other suspicious and the concurrent fight that followed caused the
machine to hang, and hang, and hang again !

Huck,

This is going to depend on which AV programs you choose and how you
implement them.

I've been running the free AVG (www.grisoft.com) for years, with Panda AV on
some machines and NAV on other machines. Occasionally I have seen
interaction problems and dealt with them as appropriate, but generally they
peacefully co-exist.
