Is it possible to backup using Ghost 2003 in DOS mode to
backup my boot up partition? All my programs are also on
the boot drive. Right now I back up on a second drive on
my computer and DVDs.

Thank you.

If the flash drive is at least as large as your boot up partition, yes this
is possible. You should check the Norton Ghost 2003 manual for how to do
this, or contact Symantec Tech Support.

Kurosh

Hi George,

I may have spoken too soon. I did some checking into Ghost 2003, and
although it does support external USB drives (i.e. hard drive or CD/DVD
drive), it may not support "flash" drives. That's something either Symantec
or someone more knowledgable about Ghost 2003 might be able to answer for you.

Best Wishes,
Kurosh

Thank you for your post. Sounds like I'll need to find out
from Symantec. I guess the floppy would have to have
USB support to use a flash drive.

Hi George,

I use Ghost 2003 all the time. I have no problems ghosting to USB hard
drives. I've never tried ghosting to a flash drive but I have ghosted a
flash drive, which was really kind of a pointless experiment.

In reality Ghost 2003 is kind of 'iffy' about USB drives. Almost all of my
drives are recognized by guest.exe which is what ghost uses to find external
drives. I've been kind of lucky.

If you're interested check here:

As for ghost itself, if you were asking if it can back up the master boot
record as well as the files. Yes, it's under Options on the DOS ghost screen.

I usually try to ghost straight onto my hard drive, it's much faster than
USB. After the image file is created I just copy it to the USB drive in
windows. To that end I always try to have multiple partitions on each hard
disk, since ghost won't write the image to the same partition you're backing
up. Hopefully you can arrange to have enough free space in each partition to
backup the other one.

Good Luck,
Len
