View Full Version : Icons slowing down ooading

I am using Windows XP Professional and have the following problem that is
driving me nuts:
Whenever I am in an application (doesn't matter which one) and I try to save
as, or open a file, or insert picture or similar, the resulting File Box
takes an age to show all the files mainly because the ICONS take ages to
show up for each JPG file that might be showing. All of the file names
immediately show up but it is slowed right down waiting for the icons for
any JPGs to show up. This stops any activity until it is done fooling with
these icons. If I have a folder that happens to have 25 jpgs in it then I
have to wait quite some time before I can access any of the files in the
box.
I get the same problem if I go into Windows Explorer and select a folder
that has jpgs in it. The file names appear immediately, but the the icons
appear at a snail's pace going down the line till it has finished.
Does anyone have any ideas that'll stop these icons taking so much time.
Thanks

Suggestions:
Divide the files into subfolders.
If you're using thumbnails in your file dialogs to locate image files,
use Folder Options> View and elect to cache the thumbnails. When
cleaning up the disk drive, don't delete the thumbs.db files.
