transferring video images

I got a plasma tv last week and bought the computer cable to set it up as a
monitor. Everything transfers from the computer screen to the plasma screen,
except, when I use windows media player to watch avi files, it doesn't
transfer the video onto the plasma screen. I can see the video on my computer
screen but not on the plasma screen. How do I solve this problem?

I forgot one more thing, it transfers DVD video images but it won't transfer
AVI video images, why is this?
