View Full Version : IE script errors

When I go into the Control Panel and open up User Accounts, I get the
following error:
IE Script Error
An error has occurred on this page.
Line:
Char:
Error:
Code:
URL:
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

No matter what I answer to that question, it just hangs there at that point
and I have to log out (there isn't a process that I can End). This only
happens on two user accounts that I created not long ago. The main sys admin
account works fine. I'm also having other IE scripting errors on various web
pages with those two accounts.

A Windows help page suggested that I register some files (jscript.dll
nusrmgr.cpl mshtml.dll themeui.dll bscript.dll) using Regsvr32 at the cmd
prompt, but doing that returned the following error:
jscript.dll failed Return code 0x80004005

I'm running XP Home SP2.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

See if this helps: Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i mshtml

Thanks Kelly.
I gave that a try, and received this error message:
"mshtml was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
This file can not be registered."

Most welcome.....would suggest from here disabling any pop-up blockers (etc)
that you have running and try again.

That help page is nothing worth. "bscript.dll" is *not* a Windows file
and "mshtml.dll" cannot be registered anymore that way since IE7. Also,
"regsvr.32.exe" does not need to be performed from the command prompt
since that command line works via "Start > Run" as well.

Well, that's not okay. Use the "Dependency Walker" (part of the "Windows
Support Tools" on your WinXP CD) and investigate that file in order to
find the cause. Or download the latest version from here:
www.dependencywalker.com

Should read "regsvr32.exe".

XP SP3 user + IE7

In case somebody is still having trouble with this. I wanted to pass
along what worked for me.

I was having trouble viewing certain web pages (such as when logged in
to mail.yahoo.com) and found that this dll would not register. This was
after recovering from a serious Virus infection. (all removed for sure,
verified with scans too numerous to mention)

I tried all the fixes I could find for this issue where I would get the
error 0x80004005 when attempting to register jscript.dll.

--I tried installing Windows Script 5.6 from the Microsoft website, but
toward the end it would give me the same error toward the end of the
installation.

--I tried unpacking the jscript.dll from an XP Home SP3 install disk to
the C:\windows\system32 folder. It was a different size than the
original, but it didn't change my error.

--Finally I found that numerous Vista users were having permissions
issues while registering. (duh, because they weren't running command
prompt with admin privileges.) So I wondered if it was security in my
OS. I downloaded dial-a-fix from: '|MG| Dial-a-fix 0.60.0.24'

Under the icon that looks like a hammer i ran "repair permissions" and
"reset WMI/WBEM" (last one is probably unrelated)

I also checked everything under the "registration center" on the main
program screen and ran that (with the check mark)

lo and behold... the error was gone! =))

The other fixes may have gotten me part of the way there, but this
finally fixed it.

Good luck.

(error messages + google = your best friend (fixed!))
